Description
"We should stand in awe of the men that conquered the mountains. In that moment we should understand that all challenges can be surmounted."In a fictitious location, a little steamer which formerly belonged to the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad is depicted crossing a stream in winter conditions. The crew is idling down grade at the point they cross this trestle thus not much steam is puffing from the stack. Engine #191 is now in the custody of the Colorado Railroad Museum for whom this painting was painted for the 2014 holiday season. 191 was originally owned by the DSP & P. They had great hope to reach California in the early 1870s when the railroad was chartered. It was not to be due to the fantastic obstacles the little company faced. They never got farther than Leadville, Colorado. This locomotive was affectionately referred to by crews as a Ten Wheeler. Please note I am uploading a graphical version of this painting for those that might desire a Holiday card version for sending to friends and loved ones. Thanks for you patronage this past year. Those that have purchased my art have paid me the highest compliment. It makes me strive to become better. Griff
