Paintography Of The Day

A favorite aircraft of pilots and aviation buffs is the Beechcraft Staggerwing. It is a biplane with a roaring round engine. This pilot flying this bright yellow Staggerwing has run into a little trouble over the Grand Canyon. (Believe it or not aircraft could fly fairly low over the canyon) The trouble he has encounter is a monsoon thunderstorm. In Mid to late summer afternoons, thunderstorms are plentiful. This one has stymied the pilot from venturing further in to the rough terrain. Done in J. Griff Griffin's unique blending of photography with digital painting the colors are intense. It's worth a second look especially if you love airplanes.

Old Tech Meets High Tech

One of the first inventions that could convey humans and products long distances quicker than horse back was the iron horse. The steam locomotive has had an important part in the history of the world. Many rail fans feel that steam locomotives have personality and that probably defines their interest in railroad subjects.

What makes an interesting mix of technology is how J. Griffin, goes about bringing the old tech into view by using the latest high technology for artists. The genre has been dubbed "paintography". In Griff's case most often begins with a photo and fills in the the backgrounds by using digital software (PhotoShop) and actually painting the landscape around the main subject digitally. After the background and main subject have been melded into a cohesive representation of the artist's mind's vision, the colors and lighting are further enhanced to leave the viewer with a work of art that borders on the surreal.
