"Small, insignificant duties, overlooked by most in their day, are now looked back upon as true Americana of the age of steam." A Yardmaster is filling out his evening log. Set in the 1940s with a single light source gives the piece a feeling of intense concentration and loneliness in his world. Though freight passing his station is great at this time, all the others are out in the yard working the freight and he is doing the waybills.
