Description
"Invention is truly the son of necessity." Maintenance of Way (MOW) vehicle devised by the Rio Grande Southern because it was much cheaper than running a steam locomotive to do the same jobs. When minor maintenance chores were addressed the "work goose" was sent out. This scene near the highest point on the RGS at Lizard Head Pass is depicted as a stormy summer afternoon in the San Juans. Lizard Head is not far to the west of Telluride, Colorado and is an iconic location on the RGS narrow gauge railroad.
